Blue Giant Dock Equipment Now Available in BIM Format

July 22, 2010 by Mark Randa

Blue Giant Dock Equipment BIM ModelsBrampton, ON, Canada (July 2010)-Blue Giant Equipment Corporation now offers a complete library of Building Information Models (BIMs) for its products on Arcat.com.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating a building’s components based on inputted specifications, and then managing the entire project during all phases of construction and maintenance. It uses 3D, dynamic modeling software to create accurate, high-definition replications of building layouts and elements.

“The BIM of a Blue Giant product includes all its specifications,” explains Jeff Miller, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Blue Giant. “Architects can take the BIM of a dock leveler, vehicle restraint, or any type of dock equipment, drag it into their 3D building plan, and drop it into place.” Read the rest of this entry →

One Gigantic Brain-Fart Later, and the Archive Gizmotron is Done!

June 6, 2010 by Mark Randa

A CSS Sprite for the OpenDesignProjectAs I pointed out on Friday, the installation of Autodesk  AutoCAD Inventor LT was a dismal failure, so I went about finishing up my Archive Gizmotron.

Then it happened. A brain fart. Not your average, normal brain fart….this one was a doosey.

It took me quite a few hours to get the POS working the way I wanted…..before the brain-fart. Melding WordPress plug-ins with a website that is less than blogesqe in its structure can be daunting……but  in the end, I had a perfectly functioning hack of a WordPress plug-in up & running …..at about 1:00 in the morning.

So the next morning I got back at it to finish things up and go live with the gizmo. I started by adding all of the elements (2)  that make up the Gizmo into the website’s CSS Sprite (a conglomerate image that dramatically speeds up website response times by reducing HTTP requests by using one image to represent most or all of the graphics for a website).  The image below shows what it looks like … Read the rest of this entry →

Grape Trellis (Arbor) Project – The Construction Wrap-Up

May 3, 2010 by Mark Randa

Grape Trellis DesignThe grape trellises are finally done, and the images and some text are over on the pages dedicated to the subject. They look quite spiffy if I do say so myself!

The beginning of the grape trellis design article is here for those who haven’t read that part yet, and the new stuff with images is here. I’m making a simple one page drawing that you can view and/or print using Design Review (download the free Autodesk Design Review), and it will be located at the end of the article.

As per usual, things took a bit longer than I would have liked, so I will not be getting back to the part demotion story until tomorrow. I’ve placed and configured all of the lower cabinets and completed the demotions for same –now I just need to write and illustrate the story. It will be interesting so stop back for it tomorrow…

Grape Trellis (Arbor) Project – Last Year’s Construction….

April 29, 2010 by Mark Randa

Images of last year’s construction as well as images of the small harvest of mostly Mars Seedless,  Suffolk Seedless, Concord Seedless and Catawba Blue grapes.

I’ve had numerous requests for an update to the Grape Trellis I began  building last year, so I updated the original article with some pictures of the grapes from last summer, and will be adding pictures of the completed trellises (2) tomorrow evening. The beginning of the story is here, and the update starts here.

I’ll be wrapping up the iCabinet manual conversion over the weekend, and will likely be posting a good, long post on Sunday with the times and commentary. A busy weekend coming up –stop back & see the action!
